Johannes Hirata's main focus is the relationship between economic progress and good development, in particular with regard to modern happiness research. In addition to fundamental questions of the relationship between ethics, economy and happiness, he is concerned with the development of concrete perspectives for progress that combine the need for justice with economic realism.


It is often better to be approximately right than exactly wrong (J.M. Keynes).


Short Vita

Johannes Hirata has been Professor of Economics at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences since February 2009. He studied economics in Maastricht and Toulouse and received his doctorate from the Institute of Business Ethics at the University of St. Gallen in 2006. He then worked for three years at Hannover Rückversicherung. In 2013 and 2014 he was visiting professor at the University of Southerin Indiana, USA, and at the University of Maringá, Brazil.
