Fields of knowledge: Philosophy

Andreas Urs Sommer is a philosopher who deals with basic questions of our culture. He has become known to a wider public through newspaper and magazine articles as well as popular philosophical books. In it he tests a new form of sceptical philosophy and critical enlightenment. Sommer has also portrayed his philosophy - on the subject of values, for example - on television.


Short Vita

Born 1972, studied philosophy, church and dogma history and German literature in Basel, Göttingen and Freiburg im Breisgau, licentiate 1995, doctorate 1998 at the University of Basel, 1998/99 Visiting Research Fellow at Princeton University, 2000-2006 Research Assistant at the Institute for Philosophy of the University of Greifswald, 2001. Visiting Fellow at the School for Advanced Study of the University of London, Habilitation 2004 at the University of Greifswald, 2007 Deputy professor at the University of Mannheim, 2008-2014 scientific commentator on Nietzsche's works, director of the Friedrich-Nietzsche-Stiftung, 2013/14 visiting professor at the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe, since 2014 head of the research unit "Nietzsche Commentary" of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences, 2011-2016 extraordinary, since 2016 W3 professorship for philosophy with focus on cultural philosophy at the University of Freiburg.
